Alexander has a Latvian roots and grew up in Latgale. He wife is Latgalian and they decided to make their home in Latgale.
Alexander is a musician who makes instruments and runs workshops in making reed pipes. He noted the importance of Kraslava as a major stop on the railway route between Latvia and Belarus. The train station was used in mass deportation during Stalin Era. Though Latvians, Latgalians and Russian speakers co-exist in this border town, the current war in Ukraine has created division with in due to the (mis)information consumed by Russian speakers, he added. Personally, he avoids, political conversation with his friends and acquaintances in order to avoid confrontations. He strongly believes in Latvia’s stance on supporting the Ukraine in fighting Russia’s military aggression.
